18-year-old Mary Jane Sollano filed a criminal complaint at the Department of Justice against the brother of business tycoon Lucio Tan, her former employer.
Joined by lawyer Al Parreno, Sollano charged businessman Mariano Tanenglian, his wife Aleta and children Maximilian and Fayette with maltreatment, illegal detention, slavery and frustrated homicide, as stated in her three-page affidavit submitted to the office of office of State Prosecutor Edna Valenzuela.
In the said document, she stated that she and the other house helpers were “not allowed to use the telephone or cell phone, talk to fellow house helpers, laugh, sit in their (family's) chairs, look outside the window, watch TV, eat at any time, sleep or rest before their tasks were completed, and read any material or write.”
Aside from this, the former house helper accused Aleta of repeatedly slapping her and she, together with her daughter, took nude photos of Sollano.
Sollano, who was working with the Tanenglians for the past five years, was rescued last August 10, 2009 by operatives from the Quezon City Police District, Commission on Human Rights and Department of Social Welfare and Development.
