Maid file crime raps vs billionaire (People’s Tonight )

Two house helpers of Chinese billionaire Mariano Tanenglian filed charges of physical injuries and illegal detention against him at the Quezon City Police District (QCPD)

Tanenglian, brother of business tycoon Lucio Tan, was sued by Mary Jane Sollano, 18, and Aljance Bacanto, 16. With them was lawyer Al Parreno. According to Parreno, the two housemaids were not allowed to step out of the house for five years and were abused by Tanenglian’s wife, Aleta, and their two children.

Sollano was ‘rescued’ from the Tanenglian’s residence by the Commission on Human Rights, Department of Social Welfare and Development and members of the QCPD Women’s Desk last August 10. Bacanto, who escaped her employers earlier on, informed Sollano’s parents of her whereabouts. During the rescue operation, Sollano was release and given her P2, 500.00 salary. The operatives, on the other hand, were made to sign a waiver stating that the victims will not file a case against the Tanenglians. The complainant’s former lawyer, Atty. Melanie Trinidad, said that the victims can still file the case since the waiver was signed “under duress”.
