According to lawyer Raymundo Quiroz, the maltreatment case filed by Mary Jane Sollano against the brother of tycoon Lucio Tan, Mariano Tanenglian, is meant to discredit him.
Atty. Quiroz further explained that the said case is a form of harassment to Tanenglian for volunteering to testify against his brother Lucio, over his ill-gotten wealth case. The complaint came out after his client communicated with the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) and the Office of the Solicitor General and offered to testify against Lucio Tan on July 18, 2009.
Quiroz claimed that they sent out press releases to the media offices, including the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, but it never came out. The lawyer claims that the reason for such is that Lucio Tan has the power to pull out advertisements from these media companies if they go against the business tycoon.
In addition, Atty. Quiroz clarified that Sollano was not rescued but was turned over by her former employer to her father and uncle in the presence of the barangay Sto. Domingo leaders.
He said that he has yet to see the complaint filed by the former house helper at the Department of Justice.
