Maids file complaint vs. Mariano Tan (The Philippine Star)

Despite the signed ‘settlement’ with their former employer, the two maids of Mariano Tanenglian filed a formal complaint against their former employer.

Mary Jane Sollano, 18, and Aljane Bacanto, 16, went to the Quezon City Police District Station 1 to give their sworn statements against Tanenglian’s family. Lawyer Al Parreno said that they are looking at the possibility of filing charges of serious illegal detention, frustrated homicide, and serious physical injuries. About the settlement, Parreno clarified that the agreement is not a basis to evade the criminal charges. The amount was only for the unpaid salaries of Sollano for the past five years. The lawyer of the two housemaids said that the two took time to file the complaint because they were undergoing counseling, and medical and psychological treatment.

Teresita Ang See’s Kaisa Foundation is also helping the two battered house helpers.

In their complaint, the house helpers claimed that they suffered physical, psychological, and emotional abuse from Tanenglian’s wife and two children. Sollano said that she was imprisoned in the Tanenglian’s residence for five years while Bacanto was detained for three years.
